A Promise is a Promise

"The Christian's God is a promising God."  So says one of the great Puritans, Robert Traill.  There could be no Christianity without this.  Christianity exists because God has made his promises.  God's promises encourage us to trust him and to pray to him, they give us an incentive to obey him and give us assurance and peace in the present and hope for the future.
